Geometric Calculation

Unread post by famim2011 » Tue Feb 05, 2013 12:17 pm

When visiting a rectangular plantation, the foreman told you that they recently put up 28 Li of fencing around the entire plantation. Having spent hours walking the width of the plantation, you know that it is 3 Li long. What is the area (in 2 Li ) of the plantation?

I believe it is copied from any pdf. I would request, if you copy, fix the endlines. like this,

I am unsure of what it means by the red part. Seemingly, here width$=3$ and length$=\frac{28}{2}-3=11$ so, area$=33$
\[\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}e^{\frac{2 \pi i k}{n}}=0\]

I agree that the area is $33$ Li but in terms of $2$ Li, the answer should be $\frac{33}{2}$ ,i.e. $16.5$. But I am not sure about the unit.
