Polarisation of Light

I've faced this problem while reading chemistry. I hope some of you also face this problem and find this post helpful. Optical isomers reacts differently to "Plane Polarised Light"(তল সমবর্তিত আলো)। In the book it says if white light is passed through quartz or tourmaline it turns into "monochromatic light"(একটি মাত্র তরঙ্গদৈর্ঘ্য বিশিষ্ট আলো)।[we know that white light consists of all sorts of coloured light].
My question is, what color the white light would get after passing through quartz/tourmaline?
And I don't understand these lines....
