Hacking and Cracking

What is the difference between hacking and cracking.
Are they crimes ?


[my $700^{th}$ post is so simple !!! :lol: :lol: ]

Tiham, I read an article in Prothom-Alo's "প্রজন্ম ডট কম" once, which said that, Cracking is a crime but Hacking is not. When a person or group illegally enters a database and steals or changes its contents, it is called Cracking. On the other hand, Hackers are legally hired people who protect a database from such unauthorized infiltration.
:arrow: Either this, or, it is the opposite. I am not really sure. :?
Actually I read the article a long time ago, and besides, I am not really in know-how of matters regarding computing. But, I am quite sure that one of these is a crime and the other is legal (but not sure which one). :roll:

Whatever it is called, if you are seeing information that you are not allowed to see, then it's illegal.

@Saumitra vaia. What you have told is the claim of those known as hackers. And so I don't think that it is entirely correct.

এতদিন ইন্টারনেট ছিল না বলে ফোরামে বসতে পারি নি। আর, সবাইকে ভুল ধরিয়ে দেওয়ার জন্য ধন্যবাদ। আমি প্রথম আলোর Article-টা অনেক আগে পরেছিলাম। এজন্য সঠিক তথ্যটা দিতে পারি নাই। এর জন্য সবার কাছে আমি আবারও দুঃখিত। :( :cry:
