Disjoint disks
Prove that any collection of disjoint disks in the plane is countable. What if we replace "disks" by "circles"?

Re: Disjoint disks
Nice problem. The following proof works for any finite dimensional euclidean space.
Re: Disjoint disks
Yes that is almost the same as my solution. Just note that we don't need to move the disks because each such point specifies one and only one of the disks (as they are disjoint).

Re: Disjoint disks

What if we have a centre at each real distance along the $x$-axis?abir91 wrote:হুম, আমার পোস্টে আমি কিছু বর্ননা দিতে ভুইলা গেছিলাম।

Re: Disjoint disks
That cannot happen, according to the condition that the disks are disjoint. Suppose, we have a disk centered at (a,0) with radius r. Then, we may not have any other disk centered in the interval [a-r,a+r].
*It can be proved quite easily that we can sort collection of disjoint intervals as well, just to clarify that it was not taken for granted. *
