About Us

Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee (BdMOC)

We are the leading national initiative dedicated to identifying, nurturing, and challenging the brightest young mathematical minds in the country. Our guiding slogan is: "Learn mathematics, see dreams" (গণিত শেখো, স্বপ্ন দেখো).

Our Mission and History

The journey of the BdMO officially began in April 2001 with the core mission to inspire and cultivate an appreciation for mathematics among students, making the subject less intimidating and more appealing. Key to its establishment were dedicated academics and proponents including National Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad, and Munir Hasan.

National Festival and Scope

The Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee (BdMOC) organizes months-long, country-wide mathematical festivals and competitions annually, typically running from December to February. The competition is open to school and college students (up to Class XII) across Bangladesh. Participants compete across four academic categories:

  • Primary (Class 3–5)

  • Junior (Class 6–8)

  • Secondary (Class 9–10)

  • Higher Secondary (Class 11–12)

International Achievements and Patronage

The BdMO has achieved its primary goal: to establish Bangladesh as a competitive force on the global mathematical stage. Bangladeshi students have proudly participated in the prestigious International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) since 2005.

A monumental achievement was securing the nation's first-ever IMO Gold Medal in 2018 (won by Ahmed Zawad Chowdhury). To date, Bangladesh has collectively won 1 Gold, 7 Silvers, and 40 Bronze medals at the IMO.

The BdMO is made possible through the dedicated efforts of the BdMOC members and the generous, long-term patronage of Dutch Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) and the daily newspaper "Prothom Alo."

Organization and Training

The BdMOC is the organizing body, supervising the entire process from regional and national Olympiads to advanced training. We also oversee the rigorous Bangladesh National Math Camp for top performers and coordinate the country’s participation in the Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad (APMO). The entire Math Olympiad process, including the selection of the National Team for the IMO, is governed by a codified set of rules known as the BdMO Regulations.
